| Choosing a security camera system One
of the simplest ways to obtain a surveillance system is to
buy a ready-made security camera system. These systems assemble
all of the components necessary to complete a surveillance
system in one convenient package - and at a package price.
There are a number of factors to consider when purchasing
a security camera system.
One of the first considerations to be made
is whether to choose a wired or wireless security camera system.
A wired system requires a video cable to transmit the video
signal from the camera to the display/recording device. A
wireless system uses a wireless transmitter/receiver combination
to transmit this signal. One major variable to consider when
deciding between wired and wireless systems is the overall
distance between the cameras and the display or recording
device. Wireless security camera systems that operate in the
2.4GHz range can transmit a signal a maximum of 700' with
a clear line of sight (no obstructions). This distance is
reduced somewhat if the signal must pass through walls, ceilings
and other objects. A good wireless transmitter/receiver combination
will still provide a distance of several hundred feet.
If you need more distance than this, a wired
security camera system can be used. Labor costs for installation
are usually more for a wired system, because of the video
cable that must be installed. However, the components for
a wireless system cost more to purchase. If distance is not
a factor, savings in labor costs to install a wireless system
can more than make up this price difference.
Other factors to consider include the number
and type of cameras included with the security camera system.
Packages are available with different quantities of cameras,
including 4, 6 or 16. Another consideration is whether to
choose color or black and white cameras. Color cameras provide
more detail, such as the color of a person's clothing or the
color of an automobile. However, they do not provide as much
overall resolution as black and white cameras. Also, black
and white cameras perform better at night than color cameras.
For best results, choose a security camera system that uses
special day/night cameras - these cameras use color during
the day while there is adequate lighting, and switch to black
and white at night for better low-light performance.
Another factor in choosing a security camera
system is the type of recording device to use. Our systems
use a state-of-the art DVR (Digital Video Recorder) system.
There are two types of DVR. The first type is self-contained
and portable, with built-in memory, storage (hard disk) and
display. The second type is based around a personal computer,
and uses the computer's hard drive and display to store and
view the images. We also carry a system that includes the
necessary hardware and software to use your existing personal
computer system as a DVR.
One feature to look for in a DVR is network
or internet viewing of the images. This feature allows you
to view the images at a distance over a network, including
the internet. You could be thousands of miles away, yet still
log in to an internet computer and view the images from your
site. Also, look for a DVR that supports quad recording and
viewing - this allows you to view or record 4 images onto
a single frame, thus saving on storage space.
We also have a complete hidden security camera
system for use in covert surveillance. This system is available
concealed in a briefcase, a backpack or a purse. It includes
all necessary cables and a power supply already connected
- no wires to hook up. In addition, we have a portable DVR
system ready to be used with up to four of your existing cameras.
As you can probably see, choosing a security
camera system can be a rather complicated process. Be sure
to choose a company such as totalsecuritywarehouse.com, where
you can benefit from our years of experience in this industry.
We also have one of the largest selections of security camera
systems that you will find anywhere.
